Conditions Treated

Anxiety

In small doses, anxiety is useful, motivating, even protective - warning us of danger, priming us to act.  But anxiety can also be paralyzing and torturous, making moments feel like hours, and hours like days.  Some of us are naturally anxious, whether the product of a highly sensitive nervous system or past trauma.  Medications coupled with psychotherapy can make the unbearable bearable, in time.

Depression

Depression looks different for everyone.  For some, it looks like anger and irritability, for others, paralyzing anxiety and inability to sleep.  Some patients experience the low mood, low motivation, decreased desire to be around people or do things they normally enjoy.  Whatever your presentation, depression is treatable and a full return to life as you knew it is entirely possible.

ADHD

No one asks to have ADHD, you are born with it.  Luckily today there are a myriad of treatment options, including medication and therapy that offer symptom relief and allow you to live a full and productive life.  Patients who do not have a current ADHD diagnosis can expect it to take 2-3 meetings to establish a diagnosis, screen for underling medical conditions, and chose an appropriate medication plan.  I ask that patients obtain full neuropsychological testing within 1 year of starting treatment to confirm the diagnosis and identify available supports at home or work.

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Being neurodivergent can be a gift but it comes with challenges too.  Individuals on the spectrum are often highly sensitive - to noise, to smells, to feelings, rejection.  Social interactions and relationships sometimes don't come easily, and are often complicated by being sensitive to personal rejection or slights.  Those on the spectrum are also more likely to experience anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive behaviors.  Just getting through the day can be exhausting, requiring significant time to recoup and reset.  If you are in a demanding career or are a parent, down-time may be hard to come by. The right medications can moderate mood, decrease anxiety, and improve functioning at home and at work.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

The unwanted thoughts, fears, and behaviors are treatable with medication and therapy.  I work closely with you and to identify medications to reduce OCD symptoms while supporting the work you do in therapy.  There is a better life on the other side of OCD, one where you can live and breathe more easily without paralyzing fear and anxiety.

Perimenopause and Menopause

As estrogen levels fluctuate during the perimenopausal phase, women can experience irritability, depressed or anxious mood, cognitive changes (brain fog), changes in working memory and word recall, insomnia.  Many women find relief in hormone replacement therapy with estrogen, but for those who do not or cannot use hormone-replacement therapy, often medication can help bridge this period of hormonal upheaval, allowing you to not just survive, but thrive in this phase of life.

Cancer Treatment Support

More and more young people are being diagnosed with aggressive or advanced cancers in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, decades that should be spent building a life, not fighting for it.  Cancer treatment is a long, hard road that is physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually exhausting.  In a day and age where most people can expect to live till their 70s and 80s, it feels deeply unfair to be hit with a catastrophic illness in the prime of life.  As someone who has walked this road myself, I offer therapy and medication support to those affected by a cancer diagnosis.

Substance dependence

Recognizing that what was once relaxing or fun has become a problem is a hard thing to admit.  There are medications that can significantly reduce cravings to drink, to smoke, and to use.  I will work with you in a non-judgmental way, to create a supportive plan to reduce or eliminate substance dependence.
